Caroline Garcia was knocked out in the first round of the WTA 250 tournament in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on Monday. The Frenchwoman, national n°1 and now ranked 21st at the WTA, was beaten by the Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-7 [4]6-4, 6-4), 26th player in the world.
In the first set, Garcia saved two set points, at 6-5, before dominating the tie-break. She was then broken at 4-4 in the next set. In the next game, the French player stood up to her opponent, obtaining six break points. But Caroline Garcia did not convert any and left the victory of the set to Cirstea.
Finally, in the third set, the Frenchwoman lost her entry serve and ran behind the score throughout the set, before losing to a shutout. In the next round, Sorana Cirstea will play against the Greek Maria Sakkari, seeded n°3 in the tournament.
