The Ibizan sailor Carlos Roselló, from the Ibiza Yacht Club, He got on the podium this Sunday by winning third place in the Spanish Ilca 7 Championship. This sporting event, which lasted four days, was held in the waters of Alicanteand the Pitiuso returns home with a new sporting achievement.

The Alicante-born Gonzalo Suárez (CN Altea), for his part, became the new Spanish champion of the Ilca 7 class and also of the Olympic Week 2024, by winning the general classification. Mallorcan David Ponsetí (RCN Palma) took the title in the U21 category.

“The championship has had all kinds of conditions. On the second day there was no wind; on the rest, light winds, strong winds and on the last day medium winds between 10-12 knots at the beginning and reaching 17 at the end, and in which there were several general calls with a black flag”, details the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante in a press release on the matter.

The three best classified

“Suárez arrived at the last day of the Ilca National 7 with a comfortable lead, although with three races ahead he could not lose sight of his pursuers either.” Thus, although he scored 13 in the first test of the day -sixth overall-, he closed the championship with a 1-2, “thus confirming his clear victory.”

Second place went to the Catalan sailor Pep Cazador (CN S’Arenal), winner of the Spanish Championship and Cup in 2022, who started the championship in an “irregular” way. “He went from less to more, finishing with a 2-9-7, which boosted him to the runner-up position,” they say in the statement.

The third place was aimed for Carlos Roselló from Ibiza with a 10-11-13 finishwhich helped him end up surpassing Ponseti, under-21 champion and fourth overall, on the absolute podium.

The German Ole Schweckendiek, who was in the top positions throughout Olympic Week, was finally left off the podium, since he did not participate in any of the three races on the last day, reports from the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante.

Almost 70 sailors

In the ILCA 7 Olympic Week from Alicante participated 67 sailors from Germany, Belgium, Spain, Great Britain and Poland; while territorial federations were present in the Spanish Championship: Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Valencian Country, Galicia and Region of Murcia.

“The Real Club de Regatas de Alicante, one of the four venues of the Comunitat Valenciana Olympic Week 2024, brought forward the competition for the Ilca 7 by one week – which next week will compete in the European Championship in Athens (Greece) – to continue the competition for the rest of the classes on February 16, 17 and 18 with the ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and 420 classes,” the note adds.
