Carlos Alcaraz started his clay court season with a second round victory in Buenos Aires

Returning to the circuit after his defeat in the quarter-finals in Melbourne against Alexander Zverev, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz defeated – not without worry – Camilo Ugo Carabelli in two sets (6-2, 7-5) during of the 2nd round of the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires. In a match where the servers did not lay down the law, far from it, the score did not reflect how close and full of intensity the match was.

During the first four games, the two protagonists lost their serve (2-2) before Alcaraz took the upper hand by winning four games in a row to pocket the first set (6-2).

At the start of the second round, Ugo Carabelli managed to break the 2nd player in the world. In a difficult fourth game, the number 1 seed took over the Argentinian’s service after seven break points. The two-time Grand Slam winner seemed to have gained the upper hand and wanted to end the match on his serve. His opponent was not of this opinion and recovered Alcaraz’s serve before winning his throw-in. Stung, the Spaniard won the match with a scathing shutout on his opponent’s serve. The 20-year-old will face Italian Andrea Vavassori, 152nd in the world, in the next round.
