Bundesliga: returned injured from the CAN, Sébastien Haller will be absent for several weeks

The days follow each other and are not the same for Sébastien Haller. Decisive with Ivory Coast to win the African Cup of Nations title, the Borussia Dortmund striker is having a nightmare season in Germany.

The former Ajax Amsterdam scorer, already injured before the CAN, returned touched from his adventure in Ivory Coast. Sébastien Haller suffered a sprained ankle and will be absent for several weeks.

“The wound has reopened”

“Exams carried out on Friday morning in Dortmund revealed that Haller’s ankle injury, suffered against Mainz in mid-December, had reopened and that he must observe a further period of rest,” his club said in a statement.

Scorer in the semi-final then in the final, Haller was injured in the 87th minute against Nigeria last Sunday, a few minutes from the Ivorians’ coronation. Arriving in the selection affected in the same ankle, the Ivorian striker had missed all the group matches before returning to the pitch against Senegal in the round of 16.

This season, the 29-year-old has yet to score in twelve games with BvB (Bundesliga and C1 combined). His return date is not yet known. He should miss the double confrontation against PSV Eindhoven in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
