Bundesliga 20th matchday – Saturday: Bayern wins against Gladbach, Leverkusen maintains the lead

FC Bayern Munich – Borussia Mönchengladbach 3:1 (1:1)

FC Bayern Munich saved themselves from the top duel with Bayer Leverkusen with an extremely difficult home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1. After Gladbach’s Nico Elvedi made it 0-1 (35th minute), Bayern youngster Aleksander Pavlovic equalized ten minutes later. Kane then let Munich celebrate making it 2-1 after goalkeeper Nicolas’ mistake following a cross from Leon Goretzka (70′). Shortly before the end, defender Matthijs de Ligt increased the score with a header. Thomas Müller was also able to celebrate his 500th competitive win – no Bayern professional has achieved so many. With a win in Leverkusen next week, Munich could take over the top of the Bundesliga.

SC Freiburg – VfB Stuttgart 1:3 (1:2)

VfB Stuttgart has clinched its next victory in the Bundesliga. The Swabians won 3-1 (2-1) against SC Freiburg, who are actually so strong at home, and consolidated third place in the table. Deniz Undav (3rd) and Chris Führich (7th), who had been so strong recently, scored early for VfB, who were initially superior, and who then played in the majority after the red card against Merlin Röhl for a serious foul (18th). Nevertheless, Freiburg found its way back into the game thanks to Lukas Kübler’s goal (45th + 11th). 1. FC Mainz 05 – SV Werder Bremen 0:1 (0:1)

In the relegation battle, the penultimate FSV Mainz 05 suffered their next setback in a 0-1 defeat against Werder Bremen. With the ninth league game without a win, the hopes of the second-to-last in the table of staying in the league are dwindling more and more. The match winner in front of 31,800 spectators was Werder’s top scorer Marvin Ducksch, who scored the winning goal after just under two minutes. With his ninth goal of the season he secured his third success in a row.

VfL Bochum – FC Augsburg 1:1 (1:0)

VfL Bochum had to be content with a 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg. In stoppage time, Demirovic hit a hand penalty to make the final score 1-1 (0-1) and thus scored his eleventh goal of the season. In stoppage time, the ball jumped to the arm of Augsburg’s VfL defense chief Ivan Ordets. For a long time it looked like another home win for Bochum, who had only suffered one defeat in ten games in their own stadium this season. Moritz Broschinksi initially scored with an overhead kick (33rd minute), but the first goal of the season wasn’t enough in the end. Augsburg and Bochum remain in the middle of the Bundesliga table and maintained their distance from the relegation zone.

SV Darmstadt 98 – Bayer 04 Leverkusen 0:2 (0:1)

Bayer Leverkusen showed no weakness before the upcoming game against Bayern Munich. The Werkself won 2-0 at bottom team SV Darmstadt 98 and remains undefeated at the top of the table. Nathan Tello scored in the 33rd and 52nd minutes in front of 17,810 spectators at the Böllenfalltor. Leverkusen is still two points ahead of Bayern. Things are becoming more and more critical for Darmstadt at the bottom of the table.
