The Eagles won an important derby against Třebíč, in which they scored five goals. Sklenář and Šťovíček hit twice, Hruška once. Dominik Groh recorded zero goals and thirty successful hits.
In the very solidly filled Znojmo stadium, the two teams were just groping at first. Třebíč was more often in the offensive zone, however, she only sent a few warm-up shots at Groh. Nevertheless, her activity earned her the first overtime. Although she had a numerical advantage in front of the Eagles’ sanctuary, she still lacked the most important thing, i.e. an accurate shot. In addition, the Horáci themselves fouled, the forces on the ice were equalized, and the home team then tried a shortened advantage. And it turned out great. He crowned a short pressure with a great shot Jan Hruška. The power hit celebrations had not even ended and the stands were erupting for the second time. Mareš sent a long pass into a separate escape Dominika Sklenářwho increased it to 2:0 after a clever loop.
After two quick goals, the visiting substitute asked for a time-out, after which the game calmed down a bit. The final minutes of the first act passed quickly, without unnecessary interruptions and in an excellent atmosphere. However, they did not bring about another change in the score.
The start of the middle part brought emotions in the stands, but also on the ice surface. Soon the first skirmishes began to occur, and the referees punished them mercilessly. In this part of the match, the Znojmo team was significantly more dangerous and twice in front of the Třebieč cage, it smelled like another increase in the score. First, Matuš tried it with a shot from close range, Šťovíček finished inaccurately from an individual action. The hockey players from Třebíč also tried to keep Groh busy, but the Znojmo goalie was able to parry shooting attempts from a greater distance, so he managed even Furch’s hard blow. Bittner had a bit more luck with the finisher, who drove up to the edge of the goal area.
The Znojmo team again got to speak in the last minutes of the third period and showed several promising substitutions. Svoboda could have brought more peace to the home hockey sticks after a nice combination that ended with Svoboda, and Šťovíčki also scored an attempt. Zahradníček had a lot of bad luck, as he leaned into the shot in a promising position and broke his stick. A scoreless 20-minute game gave us the impression that a very exciting climax of the duel awaits us.
Horácká Slavia went into the third period with a clear goal and managed to occupy the home defense for a long time. But again, there was a lack of emphasis in the ending. Therefore, Orli took the situation firmly in their hands and scored twice within two minutes. He arranged the hit, which brought peace to the Znojmo ranks Martin Šťovíček. The latter was served the disk as if on a golden platter into the ring and had no choice but to fire it behind Jekel’s back. He then conjured a quick safety after a quick counterattack Dominik Sklenář and more than two thousand spectators in the stands were already starting to guess who would dominate the derby.
Mexican waves were already rushing through the stadium and the Eagles still couldn’t get enough. He took care of the famous “fifth” with a two-on-one escape in his own weakening Martin Šťovíček. I think the players have repaid them for that. It was a nice match that ended 5-0, but it was not easy at all. Apart from the first ten minutes or so, when Třebíč put us under a bit of pressure, we were in control of the game. We played one of the best games of the season with minimum mistakes, maximum emphasis and ultimate conversion of chances. I believe that the boys will carry the enthusiasm from the derby to the next matches. Now we have a match in Prostějov and then a home match with Slavia, which can tell a lot.
Kamil Pokorný (Třebíč): We started quite well, but then two big mistakes came. The first mistake was an unnecessary foul in the attacking zone, which the opponent punished with a goal in the power play. The second big mistake was a bad substitution and we put the opponent on the horse. We wanted to keep them down so they were more nervous. In the second period, we pressed, we had chances and we managed to defend the home team’s chances as well. We wanted to dramatize the end of the match and score a contact goal. Unfortunately, Znojmo, on the other hand, increased its lead to 3:0, and from then on it was clear that we were not going to do anything with that match. The opponent was hungry, predatory, productive today with a very good finish and thanks to that he won.
