Botafogo to Join RWD Molenbeek in John Textor’s Eagle Football Group

O Botafogo must follow the same path as RWD Molenbeek and, soon, “migrate” between holdings controlled by John Textor, reported the Belgian newspaper “Sud Info” this Monday (26/2). In practice, the change doesn’t affect much.

Explain. Botafogo would be transferred from Eagle Football Holdings for OL Groupe, which will be renamed Eagle Football Group by March 31, with the aim of listing this company on the New York Stock Exchange.

As revealed in OL Groupe’s half-yearly balance sheet, the group that manages the Lyon – and 90% controlled by John Textor – bought RWD Molenbeek for €14.5 million (R$78 million) from Eagle Football Holdings. It is, in short, a transfer from Textor to Textor.

– It doesn’t change anything. The Eagle Football Group will be the owner of RWD Molenbeek, not Lyon, contrary to what we read in some places. The two clubs will simply be in the same holding company. This way, it will be easier to establish relations with Lyon, whilst benefiting from its financial strength – explained Gauthier Ganaye, CEO of the Belgian club.

The new Eagle Football Group would thus be able to have all activities related to football in the same holding, having more weight to be able to enter the stock exchange. OL Groupe, it is worth remembering, is already listed on the Paris Stock Exchange.
