He has been bankrupt for years, and Boris Becker will be sent to British prison in 2022 due to offenses in the insolvency proceedings. After his deportation to Germany, Becker’s recent income could ensure that the ex-tennis professional will soon be debt-free again.

Since declaring bankruptcy in 2017, Boris Becker has been paying off his debts, and a prison sentence for violations of the procedure will be followed by deportation to Germany in December 2022. His suspended sentence runs until the end of the year, and the former tennis star now wants to end the insolvency proceedings with a hefty one-off payment. This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper.

According to this, Becker is said to have already paid 450,000 euros to his insolvency administrator Mark Ford at the end of December; all that is missing is the formal court order. This would mean the 56-year-old would be debt-free again. The sum paid is said to be derived from Becker’s last major income: an interview with Sat.1 (fee 500,000 euros) and a documentary on Apple’s streaming service (750,000 euros).

The whole thing is made possible by a regulation in British insolvency law. “Discharge from bankruptcy” enables a financial fresh start in Great Britain, but with restrictions. Becker is not allowed to work as a managing director in England, and there are only limited loans from banks. As the newspaper reports, the restrictions will apply until October 16, 2031.

Becker would then be able to enter Great Britain again, where he worked as a tennis expert for TV stations. He also did not receive a visa for other countries such as the USA because of the ongoing proceedings. The chances of entry into the United States would certainly be higher at the end of the procedure – here too, Becker could be hired as a TV expert.

The three-time Wimbledon winner was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in London in April 2022 for concealing millions in assets from his insolvency administrators. He was released in December 2022, was immediately deported to Germany and was not allowed to travel to his former adopted home of Great Britain for the time being. According to recent information, Becker lives in Italy with his partner Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro.
