According to the latest report from the National Forestry Corporation, there are at least seven active fires currently in Valparaíso, the largest being the one in the Lago Peñuelas/Las Tablas Reserve, next to the main highway in the area, which has already burned nearby. of 9,300 hectares.

This fire, along with the one that is developing in Lo Moscoso, with 1,350 hectares burned, is of particular concern due to its virulence and its proximity to densely populated areas.

It is estimated that there are between 3,000 and 6,000 homes affected by the fire and the Ministry of Health decreed a health alert in the area.

“Once the fire is out, the cadastre phase, early aid and reconstruction will come. We will get back on our feet,” Boric concluded in his publication on the X network.

The high and unusual temperatures that were recorded Friday and Saturday in the region, the intense gusts of wind of up to 60 kilometers per hour and the low humidity made it difficult to control the fire.

The authorities, however, maintain some hope this Sunday and assure that weather conditions could improve slightly in the coming hours, which would make it easier to fight the fires.

“Starting today or tomorrow we are going to have the coastal trough (…) We could already have some cloudiness on the coast, which increases the humidity and allows the intensity of the fire to be lowered a little,” indicated the director of the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), Álvaro Hormazábal.
