Bonn. Bonn’s basketball players celebrate a dramatic victory against champions Ulm – and at Carnival too.
Thanks to an impressive comeback, the Telekom Baskets Bonn won the prestigious duel against champions ratiopharm Ulm in the Basketball Bundesliga.
In a repeat of last season’s final, the Rhinelanders prevailed 98:97 (91:91, 37:54) after overtime and made up for a 21-point deficit. Harald Frey scored the decisive free throw eight seconds before the end of overtime.
“We definitely shouldn’t have lost the game,” Ulm’s Karim Jallow said disappointedly at Dyn after the game. “Our performance in the first half was embarrassing. In the end it was still a worthy carnival game,” said Bonn’s Till Pape, while around him 6,000 Bonn fans, mostly in costumes, celebrated a huge party. The best thrower for the Bonn team was Brian Fobbs with 20 points. LJ Figueroa shone for the Ulm team with 22 points.
Table leader Niners Chemnitz clearly won against EWE Baskets Oldenburg with 87:69 (44:43) and is therefore further ahead of FC Bayern Basketball.
