Benalmádena Municipal Sports Games: Promoting Youth Sports and Values

The mayor of Sports, Alejandro Carretero, has presented at the facilities of the Arroyo de la Miel Sports Center the details of the 41st edition of the Benalmádena Municipal Sports Games, which foresee the participation of more than 2,500 players. At the level of numbers, the disciplines with the most team participation for this year include soccer-7 (43 teams), indoor soccer (10 teams), basketball (11 teams) and volleyball (9 teams), in their different categories.

Carretero has extolled that the City Council is thus promoting a school competition, “with an educational and participatory philosophy, where the different values ​​of sports practice are instilled.” Among them, the City Council will promote with these activities cooperation, equality, effort, camaraderie, acceptance of rules and others among the different schools, institutes and sports entities that work with children and young people in the municipality.

In this sense, the councilor has stressed the need to increase the number of sports disciplines that are growing, at the same time that “attempts have been made to recover sports that in previous editions could not be developed as clubs and educational centers required.”

In this season of Municipal Sports Games, the City Council has chosen to divide the competition into two groups, the one concerning collective sports, which starts with 7-a-side football (already started in the month of November), accompanied by other disciplines such as futsal, basketball , volleyball, handball and hockey; and that concerning sport at an individual level, with athletics, skating, badminton, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics and chess.

Regarding the categories called, this year you can participate from Prebenjamín (First and Second of Primary) to Youth, with mixed formations being the predominant ones. It is worth remembering that last Saturday, January 27, the team sports competition of indoor soccer and volleyball began in the Concentration Tournament format, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. “The rest of the modalities will be done throughout this month of February, to end the competition on May 11 with the finals of the different modalities and where the medal ceremony will be held for the winners,” Carretero recalled.

Among the promotional events that stand out, the mayor praised the practice of skating and handball, scheduled for Saturday, February 10, as well as chess and table tennis, for March 9, in addition to the possibility of practicing these sports free and always supervised by specialized monitors. Most matches are held on Saturday mornings at the Arroyo de la Miel Sports Center, while athletics and 7-a-side soccer take place during the week.

Finally, Carretero wanted to remember that 2024 is a “very important” year for everyone because Benalmádena “is once again in the spotlight for major sporting events,” such as the one that will take place in mid-March with the Copa del King and Queen Iberdrola, hockey. “We are promoting the celebration of large competitions so that Benalmádena is known internationally as a sports destination, it is an important challenge to which the improvement of our sports facilities will be added with a Benalmádena that has great athletes and clubs with historic achievements at the level.” regional, national and global, which is why we also foresee the creation of new facilities that respond to this determined commitment to link Benalmádena with sport in the coming years.”
