The historic player and coach Dejan Milojevic, who died on January 17 in the United States at the age of 46, was buried this Monday in a Belgrade cemetery in a ceremony in which great personalities from Serbian and American basketball participated.

Milojevic, a former Valencia Basket player and assistant coach of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, died of a heart attack he suffered while having dinner with the team in Salt Lake City, where the team was going to play. He underwent an operation that could not save his life.

The delegation that silently said goodbye to Milojevic at the New Bezanija Cemetery in Belgrade included Steve Kerr, coach of the Golden State Warriors, the club’s consultant and former player Zaza Pachulia and other representatives of the American team, reports the portal of the Blic newspaper.

Also present, in addition to the relatives of the deceased, were Serbian coaches and players such as Predrag Danilovic, president of the National Basketball Federation; Zeljko Obradovic, Dejan Tomasevic, Zeljko Rebraca, Vlatko Cancar and Nermanja Bjelica, among others.

In recent weeks, several events to honor Milojevic have been held in Serbia. The Mega club renamed its sports hall in Belgrade “Dejan Milojevic”, in tribute to who was its coach between 2012 and 2020.

The ABA Balkan League, in which clubs from five countries play – Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina – has named its MVP (season’s most valuable player) trophy the Dejan Milojevic Trophy.

The former power forward played for Serbian Partizan, Montenegrin Buducnost, Valencia Basket and other clubs, as well as the Yugoslav national team.

As a coach, he twice led his teams to the ABA league finals: Mega in 2016 and Buducnost in 2021. Milojevic was married and the father of two children.
