Belgian Archer Jarno De Smedt’s Journey to the Paris Games

Having risen to 52nd place in the world, Jarno De Smedt is still a candidate for the Paris Games! Although he was narrowly eliminated in the round of 16 at the Euro indoor with a target at 18 m, the Antwerp native continued, in Croatia, his preparation for the qualifying rounds: in May, in Essen (3 places) and in June, in Antalya (2 places).

After achieving the 16th score (572) in qualifying, Jarno (17th at the Tokyo Games) was opposed to Croatian Gradiscak, 17th in qualifying (569). Our compatriot lost in the tie-break (9-10), the archers being tied (5-5) after the series of three arrows.

Too bad because we would have happily seen Jarno De Smedt, in the next round, facing the Italian Borsani, author of the best score in qualifying (592) and therefore exempted from the round of 16. It may only be postponed this year. The Olympic discipline is played outdoors with a target at… 70 m.
