Beierl in Altenberg with the best result of the season

Austria’s bobsleigh pilot Katrin Beierl took fifth place at the two-man bobsleigh World Cup in Altenberg on Sunday. The Lower Austrian, who made her comeback in December after a 16-month break due to a stroke, achieved her best result of the season together with pusher Isabela Indruchova. Beierl has already been on the ice track with Anna Schenk and Nicola Pichler this winter.

The German Laura Nolte celebrated a home win ahead of her compatriot Kim Kalicki. Beierl was 0.48 seconds short of the podium in the field with eleven bobs. In the overall World Cup, the 30-year-old is in tenth place one race before the end of the season.

Next operation for Swiss Michel

Meanwhile, the Swiss pusher Sandro Michel has to undergo another operation after the serious training crash in Altenberg. His condition remains stable.

Michel, who suffered injuries to his pelvis, thigh area and chest when he fell from the four-man bobsleigh on Tuesday, will undergo a third operation at the University Hospital in Dresden at the beginning of the week, after which he will soon be transported to Switzerland.
