Bavarian Dominance in Jeopardy: Bayern Munich Loses to Bayer Leverkusen

Bavarian dominance has been typical of the German football Bundesliga for many decades. Bayern Munich let their opponents to the title only rarely, the last time was a dozen years ago. This time, however, he will have to deal with the attacking Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen, who are playing in a famous form, have not come across their conqueror in any of the competitions this season. The Bundesliga leader also improved his impressive record with Saturday’s dominant performance against Bayern Munich. In a duel that was supposed to indicate whether the traditional Bavarian power can still defy a team from a strong industrial agglomeration in the Rhineland.

The direct measurement of forces ended with the total devastation of Bayern Munich. Not only did he lose 0-3, but he was unable to face the opposition in literally any way. The Water Bearers also took a look at the Bundesliga hit.

“It must be said that the Munich team gave an absolutely bloodless performance. The guests presented themselves with a clueless playing style, without the slightest passion, clever thought and will to win,” moderator Jaromír Bosák criticized the performance led by coach Thomas Tuchel.

An angry Müller blamed the team, not the coach

The Trio of the Water Bearers paused precisely over the experimental strategy of the German coach Tuchel, who tried to catch the opponent by surprise by changing the line-up, now with three stoppers, and in addition an unconventional line-up, where experienced fighters such as Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Müller remained on the substitutes. “It was a strange move that didn’t work out for him at all. This is of course common in football, but what surprised me more was that Bayern could not recover from it and react more seriously even in the second half,” said Karel Tvaroh, a former football defender.

“Apart from frustration, Bayern didn’t show any emotion on the pitch. It is evident that things are creaking in the triangle between the coach, the club management and the players. Nevertheless, Thomas Müller did not attack the coach in the TV interview, but turned the criticism clearly towards the team. He was behind the fact that the players did not put into the game the dedication that is always typical for Bayern. And they failed to translate the coach’s plans correctly onto the field,” observed journalist Luděk Mádl.

The coach of the Czech national team, Ivan Hašek, also watched the duel directly at the stadium. He only saw Adam Hložk on the field for a few final minutes, his teammates Patrik Schick and goalkeeper Matěj Kovář remained among Leverkusen’s substitutes.

Among other things, the water carriers offer a thorough analysis of Bayer Leverkusen’s playing style. In the podcast, you’ll find out why rookie coach Xabi Alonso’s team dazzles pundits across the continent. And he gives Bayern a lot of reason to think about how to get him. A five-point loss in the table can be erased. With the scratch on the soul that Bayern took away from Leverkusen on Saturday, it will be worse.

You don’t train scissors

The water carriers did not miss the Spartan performance in Karviná either. The league match was decorated with a unique goal from the left by Ladislav Krejčí, with which the guests got on the horse and in the end won relatively smoothly with a three-goal difference.

“You need to realize that you simply cannot train such an ending. As far as I know, no one even tries to do that in training. In order to hit it like that, you have to get everything right, from the timing of the acrobatic jump to the appropriate spin of the ball. I don’t remember Krejčí ever getting hit in a similar way before. He allowed himself to be carried away by his goal instinct and simply put himself into it with feeling,” said Karel Tvaroh, the best goal of the first spring round.

The water carriers will tell you who is the inventor of the overhead shot, the so-called scissors. And they will also remember who has more or less successfully “cut” with them in the Czech basin in recent years.

Shootout in Prague 10

Nosiči vody named the Water Bearers a 4:3 shootout in Eden in Vršovice, which was eventually won by the home team red and white with a goal by Václav Jurečka in a duel with Jablonec. Slavia showed offensive power, but also great vulnerability when defending centered passes into the penalty area. The muddy terrain in Hradec Králové did not escape the attention of the Water Carriers, which made the working conditions significantly more difficult for the footballers.

In the latest episode of the Seznam Zpráv football podcast, you will also hear about the effect of coach David Holoubek, who surprisingly took over Mlada Boleslav in the winter. What does the ambitious move of the Central Bohemian club say? How did Matějovský et al. on the field of Pilsen? And why could the hierarchy of the “second performance sequence” of Czech football change? Not only that, the Water Bearers were debating vividly.

Even the second edition of the podcast in February did not do without the traditional betting window with Fortuna, in which the trio of Water Carriers tried to answer an ungrateful but crucial question: Who will win the Czech title this season?
