Basketball: after two weeks, former French hopeful Sekou Doumbouya leaves his club without having played a match

The future is looking dim for the old Limougeaud. Sekou Doumbouya has just left the Palencia club, last in the Spanish D1. A new setback for the former NBA player, who played for the Detroit Pistons (2019-2021) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2021-2022). Tested by the Spanish club for two weeks, he was not retained by the club, which is in 18th place in the Liga Endesa, this Monday, February 19.

The 23-year-old Frenchman spent pre-season with AS Monaco before flying to Greece to sign with Maroussi. But he finally returned to France to negotiate with the Metropolitans 92. The Boulogne-Billancourt club then offered a trial period to the player, which the latter had refused after his medical examination, wishing to obtain a contract more solid.

The former number 15 in the 2019 Draft has not played any official matches since March 2023 with the Delaware Blue Coats, the development team affiliated with the Philadelphia Sixers in the NBA. That season, he won the G-League Cup with his club, but he only took part in eight matches. The power forward has been going through a difficult time since leaving the United States.
