The 29-year-old, a member of the Dodgers since last December, wrote on his Instagram account: “A new season will begin in a new environment, with a new team. I would like to experience this new adventure together, and with the support of all of you. » He also wrote that his partner was Japanese.
Ohtani Shôhei’s message on her account, accompanied by a photo of her dog “Dekopin”.
This news is so important to the Japanese that the public broadcaster NHK displayed it as a banner during its live broadcast of the meeting of the Political Ethics Review Committee of the House of Representatives, which concerned the scandal of hidden funds of fundraising by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (PLD).
Ohtani Shôhei signed a 10-year contract with the Dodgers for 700,000 million dollars (650 million euros), an unequaled sum in American baseball, becoming on this occasion one of the highest paid athletes in the world, surpassing footballer Lionel Messi, basketball player LeBron James or quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Excelling in both pitching and hitting, Ohtani was unanimously elected twice MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the American League in 2021 and 2023, unheard of in history of this sport.
