Barça Fans Upset Over Plans for Palau Sant Jordi Instead of New Palau Blaugrana

The coming to light of Barça’s plans regarding the Palau Sant Jordi yesterday provoked an angry reaction from part of the Barça fans, who interpreted this move by the club as a loss of weight in the commitment to a new Palau Blaugrana. The club ensures that this is not the case and that they are working with the aim of finishing playing as soon as possible in the new 15,000-seat pavilion that is being planned.

As noted in the October assembly, the new Palau should be inaugurated at the end of 2027 or beginning of 2028, after a period of a year and a half of developing its project (it should be completed in the first quarter of 2025) and two and nine years months of effective construction.

However, some internal sources at the club are not categorical about meeting that deadline and point out that the new Palau should be ready before the end of Joan Laporta’s second term (if he is re-elected in 2026) in 2031.
