The first quarter-final duel between VCA Amstetten and champions Hypo Tirol in the men’s Austrian Volley League (AVL) was canceled due to organizational problems on the part of the hosts.
The game in the “best of three” series was postponed to 5 p.m. on Sunday due to a youth tournament in Amstetten. Since the hall was not ready for play an hour before the start, the referees called off the game. Amstetten is now threatened with criminal verification.
Tyrol coach Stefan Chrtiansky was angry about the incident. “It’s crazy, something like that is absolutely unprofessional. We arrived and can now go home without having accomplished anything.” The decision on the game ranking now rests with the Austrian Volleyball Association (ÖVV).
