Atlético Nacional’s Painful Copa Libertadores Elimination: Goalkeeper Errors Lead to Defeat

Atlético Nacional suffered a painful elimination from the Copa Libertadores. The purslane team was beaten at the Atanasio Girardot against Club Nacional and said goodbye to the tournament in the second qualifying phase.

The rival’s goals arose from two errors by goalkeeper Santiago Rojas, who had a tough match that earned him boos and chants from his own fans.

In the first goal, the goalkeeper made a false step and that allowed Juan Alfaro to place the ball on the goalkeeper’s post from a free kick. For his part, in the second Rojas tried to grab the ball after a corner kick previously taken, but it escaped him and this caused Rodrigo Arévalo to score the second.

In the third the goalkeeper could do little, since one of his teammates committed the penalty and Facundo Velazco tricked him from twelve steps.

Against this backdrop, Carlos Antonio Vélez harshly criticized the Paraguayan goalkeeper and blamed him for the team’s elimination.

“A question… who is the Atlético Nacional goalkeeper playing for? Insurance NOT for those who pay you. The three goals, and those from there and those from here, were scored by himself,” said the journalist in his X account.

But he didn’t stop there as he also blamed the rest of the players and highlighted that they played for the rival the entire match.

“And wasn’t it that just getting Bodmer out would fix everything? It is unusual that they throw a thousand crosses and frontal balls at a Paraguayan team when they are better in the air. They played for them all the time. The truth is, these Nacional players are under football suspicion. It seems that they “play” to deepen the mess and not to solve it unless they are that discreet and limited,” he said.
