Athletics will begin this Saturday on the way to the Olympic Games

The Dominican Athletics Federation will begin this Saturday its path towards the Olympic Games, Paris, France 2024, with several competitions where more than 150 athletes will compete in a competition that will take place on the Barahona athletics track.

The information was provided by the president of the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations, former Olympic athlete, Gerardo Suero Correa.

He indicated that they will be competing from nine in the morning until six in the afternoon, in the modalities of 100, 150, 200, 300, 600 and 1000 meters, in both branches, with the support of the group of coaches and staff of Federation support.

Correa pointed out that this will be the first official event that athletics will hold this year, in order to prepare its athletes who will be looking for places for the Olympic Games in Paris, France, which will be held in the summer of this year.

“This contest will be supported by subsidies offered by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation,” he noted.

Those already classified

Suero Correa recalled that they have already qualified for the Olympic Games, Marileidy Paulino, Alexander Ogando, stellar athletes, Olympic medalists, World Cup winners, Pan American, Central American.

Athletics has just had the most productive year in 2023 in terms of international medal wins, where athletes in the different modalities raised the tricolor flag high.

At the 2023 Panam Games in Chile, athletics was the most successful sport, winning nine medals, three gold, three silver and three bronze.
