Andrea Luchi (president FABO Herons of Montecatini) was awarded the sixth edition of Pierfrancesco Betti Award for the National Serie B Old Wild West.
The recognition, established by National Basketball League to remember the figure of Pierfrancesco Betti, long-time manager in numerous Italian basketball clubs, who passed away in December 2017, it is awarded to the finalist managers of the Coppa Italia LNP Old Wild West 2024 Of National Serie B, through voting by the 4 teams participating in the event.
Luchi, born in 1968, began his career in basketball as a journalist and later as a manager, starting from the Montecatini Sporting Club. He subsequently held managerial roles in other Italian basketball teams (Messina, Pesaro, Scafati, Sassari, Virtus Bologna) , then working in the organization of the 2013 World Cycling Championships in Tuscany. In 2021 he returned to basketball, as president of Montecatini Terme Valdinievole Basket, a new club, which obtained promotion to Serie B in the first year. In this championship the Herons finished the first leg of the first leg of group A, with 13 victories out of 17, qualifying for the Italian Cup Final Four.
The trophy will be awarded on the occasion of the next Final Four of the Italian Cup LNP 2024 Old Wild West, scheduled at the Palazzetto dello Sport in Rome on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March.
