It’s D-day for the final of the WTA tournament in Cluj-Napoca in Romania. In this match, the local Ana Bogdan faces the Czech Karolina Pliskova. Ana Bogdan, 8th seed in this tournament, won her first two rounds in 2 sets: her 16th final against Alycia Parks, 110th in the world and her 8th final against Erika Andreeva, 112th in the world. She lost the first set of her quarter-final against world No. 45 Arantxa Rus and had great difficulty finishing the other two sets in tie-breaks of almost 1h30 each. Her semi-final was easier against her compatriot Jacqueline Cristian, 81st in the world, despite the fact that she also lost the second set. For her part, Karolina Pliskova had started her 2024 season badly by having had 3 consecutive defeats but seems to have recovered very well in this Romanian tournament. She actually won all of her 4 matches in just 2 sets. She notably beat the former world top 10, Sara Errani in the quarter-finals by winning with a tough score of 6-2, 6-0. She won her semi-final in less than 1h30 against Englishwoman Harriet Dart with a score of 6-3, 6-3 and should be very motivated and confident to win the first title of her season.
