Allianz France’s “The Reverse of the Medal” Campaign: Combating Cyberharassment and Protecting Victims

This is a scourge against which Allianz France is strongly committed: cyberharassment. It must be said that the phenomenon is cause for concern: more than 4 in 10 French people say they have already been victims of insults online, according to an Ipsos study. Certain categories are particularly affected by the phenomenon: 18-24 year olds (87%), LGBTQI+ people (85%), racialized people (71%) and women under 35 (65%).

On the occasion of the International Day for a Safer Internet, on February 6, Allianz France presented its shocking campaign entitled “The Other Side of the Medal”, which aims to raise awareness among the general public about the scourge of online hatred. . In this pre-Olympic period when the voice of athletes carries farther and louder, the insurer has decided to rely on the testimonies of the eight athletes on its Team. Put in the spotlight for each of their exploits, athletes represent prime targets for those carrying hateful messages. Insults, degrading comments, rumors, threats… A disastrous setback to their sporting successes.

The other side of the coin: from glory to insults

During the event organized on February 6 and 7 on the square in front of Saint-Denis town hall, Allianz France decided to make an impression by exhibiting medals on which hateful messages were engraved. “Her name is an insult to France”, we can read on that of Clarisse Agbégnénou, double Olympic champion and six-time World judo champion, in reference to a comment received after her third world title. Stupid, nasty and without any basis, these anonymous outbursts can cause serious psychological disorders, particularly among vulnerable people. Present at the exhibition, Loïc Pietri, world judo champion, declared: “as athletes, we have the role of educators and advisors. We must help young people protect themselves from insults online. »

Protect yourself against cyberharassment

How to protect yourself from these personal cyberattacks? More than ever, information, awareness and encouragement for responsible digital behavior are key issues. This is the whole purpose of Allianz France’s “The Reverse of the Medal” campaign. But the insurer doesn’t stop there. The Allianz France legal protection contract offers “digital life reinforcement” to be supported by lawyers during disputes linked to e-reputation and identity theft. Better still, the insurer also offers psychological support, in order to support victims of cyberharassment in their reconstruction. For Alexia Dumas, digital development manager at Allianz France, “it is essential to provide human support in such situations”.
