Algerian Athletes Ready to Compete in Accra 2023 African Games Alongside Thousands from 55 Countries

Algeria will take part in the 13th edition of the Accra 2023 African Games, scheduled from March 8 to 23 in the Ghanaian capital, with 224 athletes in 18 disciplines, the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee (COA) said on Saturday.

Athletics will be the most represented discipline with 24 athletes, followed by boxing (20), karate-do (19) and swimming (18).

In team sports, the Algerian selections will take part in the tournaments of: handball (ladies), 3×3 basketball (men and women), volleyball (ladies), and beach volleyball.

Algerian athletes will also compete in the events of: badminton (12), cycling (16), table tennis (10), tennis (8), triathlon (4), chess (2), judo (15). ), taekwondo (8), weightlifting (11) and associated wrestling (11).

29 sporting disciplines, including eight which will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, were selected and are: athletics, badminton, cycling, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon and associated wrestling.

The other sports selected are: beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, football, handball, hockey, judo, karate-do, rugby, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting and arm wrestling.

The organizers also chose six exhibition disciplines: E-sports, mixed martial arts (MMA), pickleball, sambo, scrabble and speedball.

No less than 5,000 athletes from 55 countries are expected for this two-week multi-sport competition.
