Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance), the world’s No. 1 badminton women’s singles player, will return to the court after a month and a half.

The Korean badminton team, including Ahn Se-young, will participate in the 2024 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour French Open (Super 750) held in Paris, France on the 5th of each month.

In the German Open (Super 300) currently being held in Mülheim, Germany, only Jeon Hyeok-jin (Yonex) and Kim Ga-eun (Samsung Life Insurance) in the men’s and women’s singles, and world 7th place ranked Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) and Jeong Na-eun (Hwasun County Office) in the mixed doubles are participating.

However, the full team will participate in the French Open, including Ahn Se-young, Kim So-young, and Chae Yu-jeong (Incheon International Airport), who were recovering from injuries. Women’s doubles world 2nd place Lee So-hee (Incheon International Airport) – Baek Hana (MG Saemaeul Geumgo), 4th place Kim So-young – Kong Hee-yong (Jeonbuk Bank), men’s doubles world 2nd place Seo Seung-jae – Kang Min-hyuk (Samsung Life Insurance), world 3rd place mixed doubles Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong are all involved.

In particular, this French Open is scheduled to be held at the stadium where the badminton event at the Paris Olympics will be held this summer, so it is a good opportunity to adapt to the local environment as a prelude to the Olympics. After finishing the French Open, the national team will then participate in the All England Open (Super 1000) to be held in Birmingham, England on March 12.

However, it is known that Ahn Se-young, Kim So-young, and Chae Yu-jeong’s physical condition is not perfect. For Ahn Se-young, who injured her knee in the women’s singles final at the Hangzhou Asian Games in October last year, she returned to the court after five weeks of rehabilitation. Last year, her performance at the end of the year was not good, but on the 14th of last month, she made her first appearance in the new year and announced her revival by winning the Malaysia Open (Super 1000). However, she subsequently withdrew from the quarterfinals of the India Open (Super 750) due to pain in her knees and thighs, raising concerns for her. After her rehabilitation, Ahn Se-young has already started her on-court training. She also expressed her intention to compete at the German Open, but ultimately decided to focus on regaining her condition and competing at the French Open and All England Open.

Ahn Se-young became the first Korean player to win the women’s singles at the All England Open last year in 27 years after Bang Bang-hyun. At that time, Korean badminton announced its revival with Kim So-young, Gong Hee-yong and Lee So-hee and Baek Hana sharing gold and silver medals in the women’s doubles, and Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong and Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun winning silver and bronze medals in the mixed doubles.
