South Africa’s national football team secured third place at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

“Bafana Bafana” prevailed on Saturday evening (February 10, 2024) in the so-called small final after 90 goalless minutes with 6:5 on penalties against the Democratic Republic of Congo with Stuttgart’s Silas. Nigeria and the Ivorian hosts around BVB striker Sébastien Haller will contest the final on Sunday in Abidjan.

Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was the match winner with two saved penalties for South Africa, which achieved its best finish at an African Championship since third place in 2000 after the bitter semi-final defeat on penalties against Nigeria.
