Adolfo López, from Badminton Oviedo and CDT Asturias, took bronze yesterday in doubles in the Italian Junior, one of the most important competitions in the sport. He did it with his partner Ramón Rovira from the CTD of the Balearic Islands and reached the quarterfinals in the mixed category with Carmen Jiménez, from Ibiza.
López expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the first international of the year, and highlighted the importance of “playing well and fighting at every moment”, since the level of the competition was high.
Starting as top seeds, López and Rovira beat the couple formed by Rayan Almukhimer (Saudi Arabia) and Bharath Latheesh (United Arab Emirates) in the first round, and then defeated Pascal Cheng and Lorenz Windaue, both Austrian athletes. In the quarterfinals they won against Gonzalo Isabal, from Spain, and Nolhan Rihouey, from France, and in the semifinal they could not overcome the Italian couple formed by Marco Danti and Simone Piccinin.
In mixed, with Carmen Jiménez from the CTD of the Balearic Islands, they advanced to the quarterfinals. There they fell to Pannawat Jamtubtim and Naphachanok Utsanon, both from Thailand, thus remaining one step away from the semifinal.
The next international event will no longer be junior and will be of an absolute nature in Portugal. There, from March 6 to 10, the Carbayón athlete will participate, where in addition, Amaia Torralba, Iván Torre, Marcos García, Vicente Gázquez and Jana Villanueva will travel through the CTD of Asturias accompanied by coach Mario González.
The Asturian Honor Division team lost yesterday in Oviedo against UD Ibiza Bádminton Pitius in a very difficult match for those from the Principality. The final score of the match was 7-0 in favor of Ibiza, which leaves the Oviedo team in fourth position in Group A. The Carbayón team is already preparing to face Ravachol on March 9 at home and to play the play -off for permanence on March 23. It will be the moment of truth.
