Adina Guenescheau: Rising Star in Judo – An Interview with a Bronze Medalist

Interview

During the departmental minimal women’s and men’s judo championship, Adina Guenescheau, 13, won the bronze medal. Encounter.

How long have you been practicing judo?

Adina Guenescheau : “I am starting my fourth year of judo at BLC Judo Taïso, in Brézé, delegated municipality of Bellevigne-les-Châteaux and I am now in my 2nd year. It was my dad, who practiced judo, who passed on the love of this sport to me. And then I liked contact sports, combat sports. I wanted to try it and I haven’t stopped since. I train twice a week, Monday and Thursday.”

What are the rules of judo?

“The goal is to make your opponent fall and immobilize him for 20 seconds on his back. Judo is also based on respect for one’s opponent, politeness, courage…”.

What does judo mean to you?

“First of all, pleasure, adrenaline. I am combative and when I am on the tatami, I have only one objective: to win my fight. I am proud to have finished 3rd in the departmental championship at the end of January. This bronze medal gives me access to the regional championship [qui avait lieu hier, NDLR]. I have been participating in the departmental championship for two years, where I finished 3rd. Last year, at the regional championship, I finished 5th. Last year, I narrowly failed to qualify for the French championship, so this year, I hope to get a podium to go to the French championship in March.”

Do you want to continue judo in the future?

“With my classes, it’s going to be a little complicated. Next year, I will be in 9th grade and will therefore have more work. But judo will always remain a passion for me. I’m going to follow judo at the Olympic Games. Among the men, I really admire Teddy Riner who is a great champion and among the women, Clarisse Agbégnénou. I hope that this year, the French judokas will win a medal! “.
