2024 Grandview Heights Secondary (GHS) Junior B Series Badminton Tournament: Registration Now Open

It’s time to bring out the badminton racquets and dust off the shuttlecocks.

Wing’s Badminton is hosting the 2024 Grandview Heights Secondary (GHS) Junior B Series Badminton Tournament at the South Surrey school Feb. 17-19, over the Family Day long weekend.

The competition, now in its second year, is an integral part of a series recognized by both Badminton BC and Badminton Canada, with all proceeds generated from the tournament going to the GHS robotics club, featuring the Ursa Major Robotics Team, who made it to world championships in Texas last year.

“We are excited to open the tournament to players ranging from U11 (born in 2014 or later) to U19 (born in 2006 or later),” said robotics teacher and team coach Scott Smith in an email.

“This wide age bracket is designed to include not just students from our school, but also, members of the wider badminton community across British Columbia.”

Smith said the timing of the tournament, over a long weekend, was chosen to ensure the event does not interfere with school hours and to facilitate broader community engagement, with more than 250 players expected to participate.

Registration deadline is Feb. 14.
