2024 French Badminton Championships to be Held in Fos-sur-Mer: The Popov Brothers are Pumped Up!

This year, the French Badminton Championships will take place in Fos-sur-Mer, from February 2 to 4. A place which was not chosen at random, since it is the club housing the two French masters of the discipline: the Popov brothers. And they are pumped up!

This year, the town of Fos-sur-Mer has the chance to host the French Badminton Championships, which will take place from February 2 to 4. If you know a little about badminton, this city probably means something to you, since it is the training ground of the Popov brothers. The mayor of Fos-sur Mer, René Raimondi, is happy to host such a sporting event: “Nour city has always done its utmost to develop and support sport. We are very proud that a town of 17,000 inhabitants is home to the hope of French and world badminton, and that they represent us so well. It’s a real chance!“For Christo, playing this championship at home has a very special resonance:”My brother and I have a bit of pressure, obviously, like before every important competition. But knowing that we are going to play at home, here in Fos, is something really encouraging. It makes you want to give 1000% for all the people who will come and encourage us“.

Two brothers, but only one French champion…

Christo and Toma Jr have been performing in French and international badminton for several years now. But when they are not partners in men’s doubles, they sometimes have to compete in singles. Like at the 2022 French Championships, in Boulazac, where they find themselves on the same field, but not on the same side of the net. If Christo won this final, he would lose in three sets a year later, leaving his title to the eldest of the family. For Toma Jr, it is difficult to determine who this year would have the best chance of winning the title between him and his brother, if there were to be a 100% Popov final: “My brother and I know each other so well that it’s difficult to determine who is the strongest. We have the same level, and victory really depends on our form at the moment. For me, the real victory is is to be able to play the final against my brother, from there we both won.” For Christo, it’s not all the same story. He admits with great humor and irony: “Oh no, I am determined to win and regain the title!”

A few hours before the start of the competition, there is no doubt that the two brothers are pumped up. So who will be the 2024 French champion? Response on Sunday February 4. Competition to follow on Maritima.
