Yoshida Hojo Shines in First Appearance at Judo Grand Prix in Portugal

In his first appearance, Yoshido Hojo immediately took gold. Triumphs also for Lucy Renshall, Danil Lavrentev and Barbara Matic

The second day of the thrilling event took place in Portugal Judo Grand Prix ospitato da Pavilion Multipurpose of Odivelasin which the local fans did not lack passion and participation.

The second day was opened by speeches from the mayor of Odivelas Hugo Martins and the president of the Institute for Youth and Sports Vito Pataco. The president of the Portuguese Judo Federation then spoke Sergio Pina and the sports director of the International Judo Federation Vladimir Barta.

A demonstration of the project kicked off the event “Grandparents(z) of Judo”. The Judo Clube da Marinha Grande made this innovative social project in 2022 with the support of the “Portugal 2020” programme.

There is therefore room for competition, with Lucy Renshall who secured the gold medal in the -63 kg, quickly overtaking the Australian with a waza-ari Katharina Haecker, due to a penalty for hansoku-make. Mayor Hugo Martins presented the medals.

Per i -73 kg Danil Lavrentev he won the victory with a splendid ippon, demonstrating great qualities that earned him his first gold in a Grand Prix. The medal was presented to him by Vladimir Barta.

In the women’s -70 kg category, the two-time world champion Barbara Matic he won his fifth gold nel Grand Prix.

A difficult encounter that led to the hansoku-make for Gulnoza Matniyazova. Matic exploded with joy at the end of the race. The medal was presented by Neil Adams, commentator of the International Judo Federation and world champion.

For the -81 kg Yoshito Hojo did his thing first appearance on the World Judo Tour and immediately won gold – a fantastic ippon for the young Japanese talent.

The medals were presented by Florin Daniel Lascau.

Finally, there was no shortage of demonstrations of talent by Portuguese judokas, who showed off magnificent ippons throughout the day, a source of inspiration for the many spectators who attended the Grand Prix. Appointment at Monday 29 January for heavyweights.
