Qatar met Palestine in the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup. Having fallen behind at first, Akram Afif cs then won 2-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals.
Qatar vs Palestine took place at Al Bayt Stadium, Tuesday (30/1/2024) early morning WIB. The hosts appeared very dominant during the 30 minutes of the match.
However, Palestine was able to take a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute through Oday Dabbagh. He fired a flat shot across after being shadowed by three Qatari players.
Palestine conceded in first half injury time. A low corner kick from Akram Afif was completed by Hassan Al Haydos’ shot to force the first half to end 1-1.
Mohammed Saleh fouled one of the Qatar players in the penalty box in the 49th minute. The referee then gave Saleh a yellow card and Qatar was awarded a penalty.
Afif stepped up as the executor and his shot was able to outwit the Palestinian goalkeeper. Qatar also took the lead 2-1.
Palestine tried hard to find a return goal after conceding. Qatar instead seemed to be losing in dominating the game and also seemed to be careful.
Qatar managed to maintain the score 2-1 until the match was finished. This result made Tintin Marquez’s troops advance to the quarter-finals and Palestine was eliminated.
