The Government of Mexico City reported that in 72 neighborhoods in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office and one in Tláhuac they will not pay for water from 2019 to 2024.

The payment forgiveness for fiscal years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 is because they have not received sufficient water supply, according to what was published in the Official Gazette of the Government of Mexico City this week.

“The Head of Government has the power to issue General Resolutions through which the payment of contributions, benefits and their accessories is condoned or exempt, in whole or in part, and to authorize their payment in installments, deferred or in installments, when has affected or tries to prevent the situation in any area of ​​Mexico City from being affected,” the document indicates.

According to what was published in the Gazette, the 72 colonies in Iztapalapa that will not pay for water service are those located in the Sierra de Santa Catarina and towns such as Santiago Acahualtepec and San Lorenzo Tezonco, while in Tláhuac they are those in the area of San Nicolás Tetelco.

The Mexico City Water System (Sacmex) clarified that the forgiveness will be applied automatically, so users do not have to request it.

In addition, the CDMX government announced total or partial forgiveness of property taxes in fiscal year 2024, to the owners of properties affected by the works of the expansion of Line 12 of the Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro and the construction of the Interurban Train Mexico-Toluca.
