Luca Marini is going to make his debut as a factory rider in MotoGP. And he is going to do it in a big way, with a two-year contract with Repsol Honda, the most successful team in the category. The young 26-year-old Italian driver arrives with the aim of this squad winning races again and getting out of the crisis it is in.
Where does your passion for motorcycling come from?
It started when I was little, but every year it has grown because at first you have a small motorcycle, which picks up very little speed and then it increases the displacement and the circuits and makes you have more fun. When I arrived at the World Cup, the emotion I felt was incredible; I have tried everything to make it my passion, my life and my work. Now that I am in this team, in MotoGP, it is a dream.
What made you want to join the Repsol Honda team?
It was a shock when Marc said he was leaving this team, so I tried, together with my manager and the rest of the people who always accompany me, to find contact with the team and see what possibilities I had in this new project of developing a powerful motorcycle that can win races and titles again. It turned out well, so let’s start this new adventure in the best way possible.
What do you hope to feel in this team?
I think we are going to work a lot, I have already been able to see and meet many people in the box, I really like working with the Japanese and their culture. With the bike we are going to push from the first moment because Honda has to win races again as soon as possible.
What is your goal for 2024?
Improve the bike, get good performance out of it. In terms of results, the first thing I have to do is beat my Honda teammates. It won’t be easy, at the moment I have little experience with this bike, but I’m going to do my best to try everything.
