What a flop for Netflix. This is what they did to Iga ¦wiatek. Big surprise Tennis

Aryna Sabalenka was the heroine of the first season of the series “Break Point”, and 2023 – which the continuation talks about – was the best year in her career. She won her first Grand Slam title. The Australian Open final from twelve months ago is the climax of the first episode.

The hit turned out to be a flop. As if they forgot about Świątek. Fans are disappointed

The Belarusian also reached at least the semi-finals in each of last year’s Grand Slam tournaments. The US Open was also an important event of the season. In New York, Sabalenka reached the final, where she lost to Coco Gauff, but more importantly – she became the leader of the WTA ranking for the first time in her career, which we could observe from behind the scenes.

The problem is that this is where the second season of the series “Break Point” ends, which means that viewers who are not familiar with the realities of tennis (and this is what Netflix wants to reach) may believe that it was a kind of final of the competition in 2023, but a few weeks later Iga Świątek triumphed in the WTA Finals and returned to the first place in the ranking in a blaze of glory. It wasn’t even mentioned.

Despite her position in the WTA, the Polish woman is basically absent from the new Netflix production, but we could have expected this, as she was not an important character in the first part – which consisted of ten episodes – and the second season was shortened to six stages. The stories presented are quite tedious – once again we followed the fate of Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe in the fight for the number one position in American tennis – or full of gaps and lacking context. Just like in the case of women’s competition.

“Imagine that some random people watch ‘Break Point’ and wouldn’t even notice that Iga is number one and dominates this discipline,” fans are shouting on social media.

However, the most controversial thing is the portrayal of Alexander Zverev in the series. Viewers can meet the German when he returns to the game after a serious injury suffered during Roland Garros 2022. His determination in recovery is admirable, although the trial in which the tennis player is accused of physically abusing his former partner has been completely omitted. Yet, in the first instance, he was fined nearly half a million dollars by a Berlin court. “The allegations of domestic violence against Zverev, which he denies, have not only disappeared, but are completely ignored. Whitewashing his image, in such a disgusting way, further reduces the credibility of this series,” The Telegraph reviews this episode.
