Barracas Central and Vélez Sarsfield, both with official debuts for their technical directors, tied 1 to 1 on the Lanús field, where ‘Guapo’ played at home due to renovations in their stadium, on the initial date of zone A of the League Cup.

Gustavo Quinteros’ team showed two faces: they played a very good first half, where they took the lead with the midfielder born in Brazil, Lenny Lobato, and then had a weak complement.

Those led by Alejandro Orfila tied on the edge of the initial stage through a strong shot, including a deflection, from midfielder Lucas Brochero and were able to win it in the second half, when they generated several clear situations.

Vélez was superior in the opening minutes, with control of the ball, precision and associated play in attack through midfielders Claudio Aquino and Francisco Pizzini, along with the speed of Lobato.

The scorer Braian Romero generated the first clear chance, when at 8 minutes he received a pass in three quarters, he outlined himself and took a shot that deflected into the corner. Two minutes later, Aquino executed a long lateral from the right wing that Romero lowered with his head into the area for the appearance of Lobato, who defined head-on with a devastating shot.

The ‘handsome’ only created a clear situation through a shot by midfielder Siro Rosane that went near the right corner of goalkeeper Tomás Marchiori.

At 37, Sebastián Moyano deflected a strong shot from Pizzini and saved Barracas. When Quinteros’ team were closer to the second, midfielder Santiago Coronel took a corner outside the area that Brochero connected and, after a deflection off Leonardo Jara, sealed the tie for Orfila’s team.

The second half showed inaccuracies from both teams. Barracas responded in the 7th minute with a good touch from Coronel and a hook from the attacker Manuel Duarte inside the area, who outlined himself and finished, but Marchiori saved the team from him.

In the following minutes, Vélez tried to attack with similar intentions to the first half, although without gravitating too much. Barracas, better positioned, complicated it with counterattacks and the defensive closures of defender Valentín Gómez were important.

Quinteros moved the bench and sent forward Matías Pellegrini, from New York City of the MLS, to the field in place of Pizzini.

At 30 minutes, Barracas had a one-on-one from a counter led by Maximiliano Zalazar, who had entered shortly before, but Marchiori made a good save and blocked it with his right arm. Shortly after, Alan Cantero, who also entered, feinted and faced a static defense of the ‘fort’ to force a new save from the former Atlético Tucumán goalkeeper.

Orfila’s changes responded: around 45 minutes, Daniel Juárez played for the Uruguayan Jhonatan Candia, who had his chance against Marchiori.

‘Fortín’ will host Independiente on the next date, while ‘Guapo’ will do the same with River Plate.
