Jakarta

Valentino Rossi ‘returns’ to the track with a Yamaha R1 motorbike. Rossi tried out the motorbike on the sidelines of the WSBK test at the Portimao Circuit.

The 2024 MotoGP season will be held in the near future, March 10 2024 to be precise. The opening series will be held at the Lusail circuit, Qatar. Before the season opened, a number of MotoGP riders underwent WSBK (World Superbike) tests in Portimao.

The test was held by the factory Ducati team at WSBK. The riders who took part in the test included Ducati factory team riders Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini, newcomer to the Ducati satellite team Franco Morbidelli, VR46 Racing Team rider Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Then there is also Luca Marini who drives a Honda. Apart from that, the veteran rider who now works as assistant coach for VR46 Andrea Migno also tried out the track. Celestino Vietti, who is currently involved in Moto2 racing with Red Bull KTM Ajo, also participated. Both Vietti and Migno tried out the Yamaha R1.

Interestingly, MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi also took part in the test session. Rossi is known to ride a Yamaha R1.

“Guess who’s back? The WorldSBK racers shared the Portimao circuit with Yamaha racing legends when Valentino Rossi took to the track on a very distinctive Yamaha R1 motorbike. Valentino on a motorbike is something very special,” wrote the X Yamaha Racing account.

On that occasion, Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez were also apparently present. Based on the Speedweek report, in the Portimao garage there was a Ducati motorbike ridden by the Marquez brothers that was driving without a transponder. This means that both time records do not appear. Not long after, the Marquez brothers immediately left the place because they were leaving for Jakarta. Yes, based on the Gresini Racing account announcement, Marc Marquez and his younger brother will attend a press conference session in Jakarta on February 3 2024.

“This Saturday (3/2) big news for our fans and enthusiasts in Indonesia. The Gresini MotoGP Team will be in Jakarta for the Kick Off Press Conference! Can’t wait to join @sandiuno!” he wrote on the official Gresini Racing Instagram account.
