The preparation tournaments for the Australian Open did not go quite as planned for the US tennis stars Sebastian Korda and Ben Shelton.
Both were eliminated in the semi-finals by lower-ranked players in Auckland and Adelaide respectively. The top seeded Shelton had to bow to world number 74, Taro Daniel from Japan, 5:7, 6:7 (9). Korda, number 3 in Adelaide, only played three games against Jiri Lehecka (CZE).
In the women’s tournaments, Jessica Pegula’s absence from the semi-finals in Adelaide stands out. The American, seeded number two and number five in the WTA rankings, had to withdraw due to stomach problems.
