Twins from Nérac Albret Judo Shine in Kata Competition

the essentials Several days ago, a kata judo-ju jitsu competition took place at the Agen Stadium, dominated in the junior category by the young couple of judokas from Nérac Albret Judo, Faustine and Léandre Larigaldie.

Almost 13 years old each, they have already been practicing judo for nine years together.

Together on the tatamis for training several times a week with Christophe Brésolin, coach of Nérac Albret Judo, but not on weekends for competitions however: if Faustine likes to confront the opponent in judo fights during tournaments and championships , this is not the case for his twin brother, who appreciates judo for its technicality and the moral values it transmits (opinion shared by his sister obviously!).

Learning and deepening

It is therefore on a specific discipline that their mutual interests met, kata. Kata consists of a demonstration of the basic principles of attack and defense following a rigorous progression, the result of the experience and reflection of the best and oldest masters of judo. It is a choreographed and highly ritualized form of judo that black belt candidates must master – among other things – to reach the rank of 1st dan black belt.

And they are rare, the judokas who discover the pleasure of learning and deepening kata before having to confront it for their grade progression. For Faustine and Léandre Larigaldie, kata is a bit like the meeting of judo and dance, another of their passions. They started preparing him last spring to participate in the selection of the departmental team which would represent Lot-et-Garonne at the Coupe de France Minimes in Ceyrat in March 2023.

Since this very first competition, they have been training regularly for what has become their favorite discipline.

The nationals next March

Recently at the Agen National Open, they competed against other juniors who came to present kata in front of a jury made up of national judges, notably André Parent, national referent and coach of the French kata team. Another pair of Lot-et-Garonnais twins keen on kata were present on the tatami on Saturday: Julian and Victor Vincent, who finished 5th at the World Championship in Abu Dhabi at the start of the month.

A very good model for the young judokas of Nérac Albret Judo, who are now aiming to participate in the French Minimes Championship in Béthune (62) next March and hope to repeat the feat of scoring more than 400 points during their demonstration.
