Transfer ticker: Cologne’s ex-goalkeeper Timo Horn is moving to RB Salzburg

Former Bundesliga goalkeeper Timo Horn is now playing for Austrian series champions Red Bull Salzburg. The 30-year-old has a contract there for the rest of this season. Horn has been without a club since last summer; he left 1. FC Köln after a total of 21 years.

“My decision feels very good, we quickly came to an agreement,” said Horn in a statement from Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday. It had to be a club that “suited me and that I could identify with”. However, the number one in Salzburg is the Austrian national goalkeeper Alexander Schlager. “I will try to support him as best as I can in the rest of the season and still do my best to give the coach arguments,” said Horn.

Eric Dier in FC Bayern’s sights

It is essential for FC Bayern to improve their defense this winter. With Min-jae Kim and Noussair Mazraoui, two regular players are missing due to their appearances in the Asian and African Cups respectively. A replacement is desperately being sought, and one trail leads to England. Harry Kane should be happy about that.

The German record champions are reportedly interested in signing England international Eric Dier. The “Football Insider” portal even reported that the two parties had reached an oral agreement. There was initially no official information. The 29-year-old Dier is under contract with Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season – and has a special relationship with Bayern striker Harry Kane. The defensive player was on the pitch with no other player as often as with Kane. The duo played a total of 359 games together for Tottenham and the English national team. There may be further joint missions for Bayern Munich soon.

In addition to Dier, the Munich-based company is also looking into other alternatives; the name Trevoh Chalobah in particular is being discussed. The 24-year-old Englishman was already linked to FC Bayern in the summer, and according to British media, the Munich team has now renewed their interest. Coach Thomas Tuchel knows Chalobah, who can be used in defense on the inside and on the right, from his time at Chelsea. The defender is currently recovering from a thigh injury but should be fit again by the end of the month. There is speculation about a loan deal.

Kalajdzic returns to the Bundesliga

Eintracht Frankfurt is about to sign Sasa Kalajdzic, thus closing the big construction site in attack. The Hessians are in promising, final negotiations about a transfer with Wolverhampton Wanderers. “It looks good,” confirmed consultant Sascha Empacher to Hessischer Rundfunk.

The former Stuttgart player Kalajdzic will initially be loaned out from Wolverhampton for six months. The last one and a half years on the island were very unfortunate for the two meter tall attacker. On his debut, Kalajdzic tore his cruciate ligament and was out for months. The 26-year-old made 12 appearances in the Premier League and only scored two goals.

After a long search, Frankfurt has found a replacement for Randal Kolo Muani, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. The search for a striker is not yet over with the transfer of Kalajdzic. Because the Egyptian Omar Marmoush, by far Frankfurt’s top scorer this season with seven goals, will be missing in the coming weeks because of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Another newcomer is Hugo Ekitiké, as was the case in the summer. The 21-year-old is a teammate of Kolo Muani, but only makes one appearance due to the enormous competition in the Paris attack. Six months ago, PSG was demanding around 30 million euros, too much for Frankfurt.

St. Petersburg snatches a Brazilian away from FC Bayern

FC Bayern is looking for reinforcements, especially in defense. It was shaky in the first half of the season, and Min-jae Kim is also missing a defender in the coming weeks. The South Korean is in action at the Asian Cup.

According to “Bild” information, the Munich-based company was involved with the Brazilian Marcilio Florencio Mota Filho, or Nino for short. The 26-year-old is said to have been offered to coach Thomas Tuchel in the past. It is said that Bayern’s coach could well have imagined a transfer. But things turned out differently.

On Thursday evening, the central defender moved from his Brazilian club Fluminense to Zenit St. Petersburg. The Russians are paying a transfer fee of just five million euros – slim money for the captain of the former Copa Libertadores winner and Brazilian international. So Bayern could have missed out on a real bargain.

BVB: This is the situation with Sancho and Maatsen

Borussia Dortmund scored a real coup in this transfer window and brought Jadon Sancho back. As “Bild” reports, BVB officials have achieved a decisive breakthrough in negotiations with Manchester United.

Sancho is to be loaned out until the end of the season, the entire package costs three million euros. It is eagerly awaited to see whether he will join the fifth-place squad in Marbella on Friday. “Bild” reported on an agreement in talks about a loan deal for the 23-year-old. However, according to “WAZ”, it is unlikely that Sancho will arrive in Marbella on Friday. The transfer was a hassle – as was the hoped-for signing of defender Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.

Eintracht Frankfurt ends misunderstanding Alario

Lucas Alario no longer had any prospects in Frankfurt. The 31-year-old Argentine is now moving to Brazilian first division club SC Internacional Porto Alegre with immediate effect, as Eintracht announced. Alario moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Frankfurt in the summer of 2022, where he was never able to meet expectations.

He scored two goals in just 26 competitive games. The big sticking point was a knee injury last May. As a result of the necessary operation, the South American was no longer used this season.

Last European Championship chance? Returnees back to France

The move from national soccer player Thilo Kehrer to AS Monaco is perfect. The 27-year-old will be on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season with an option to buy, the club from the principality announced.

The former Schalke professional Kehrer knows Ligue 1 from his four years with the French series champions Paris Saint-Germain. In 2022, the versatile defender moved to West Ham United in the Premier League, where he was hardly used this season. Most recently, Kehrer was also missing from the German national team squad. The move to France is intended to increase Kehrer’s chances of getting a ticket to the European Championships in his own country.

Christian Streich is pushing for transfers

SC Freiburg is struggling in its winter preparations. Coach Christian Streich would like to see more personnel in the current transfer period. “I hope something happens soon. “It’s too thin, the training group is too small,” said the SC coach, who completed his first public training session of the year on Thursday in front of an impressive crowd of around 1,000 spectators.

“But that’s been the case the whole preliminary round because we had a lot of bad luck with injuries and a lot of sick people,” continued Streich. In addition to the long-term injured Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Christian Günter, who is at least training individually again, the Freiburg team are currently missing Philipp Lienhart and Kenneth Schmidt. Lucas Höler missed the first units of the new year due to illness. The Freiburg team may have to do without the Japanese Ritsu Doan until February because he is in action at the Asian Championships in Qatar.

On January 13th, Freiburg will start the second part of the Bundesliga season against Union Berlin. “We’re making the best of it and it’s fun to play again straight away,” said Streich.
