It was only a matter of time before BVB presented their next winter signing. After the much-celebrated return of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, only official confirmation of Ian Maatsen’s transfer was pending. Borussia Dortmund unintentionally provided the first details.
Some BVB fans were surprised on Thursday that the Dutchman’s jerseys were already available for purchase in the club’s online shop. The breakdown made it clear that Maatsen would wear the number 22 in Dortmund in the future.

Official confirmation from the Black and Yellows followed on Friday morning. As expected, left-back Maatsen will be on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old had already passed the medical check in Dortmund on Wednesday and the deal only depended on the Blues’ final signature.

“Ian’s strengths fit our requirements profile. He is a player who has a lot of speed, has a strong left foot and can also be used in various positions. We are very pleased that we were able to realize this loan before our first Bundesliga game of the year,” BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl is quoted as saying.
Werder wants defenders from Argentina
Werder Bremen is apparently close to signing Argentine defender Julián Malatini. Argentine media reported this unanimously on Friday. The 22-year-old plays for the first division club Defensa y Justicia and, according to the Argentine association, has already left the quarters of the country’s Olympic team to complete a transfer.

“Eric will be a valuable part of our defense. His sporting abilities and his international experience will help the team both on the pitch and in the dressing room,” said sports director Christoph Freund, according to the statement.
