Only ten days until the start of the competitive game against Hoffenheim
On Tuesday, coach Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern, like many of his league colleagues, invites you to the first practice session of the year. There isn’t much time left, because the record champions 1899 Hoffenheim will be hosting Hoffenheim for the start of the 2024 competitive game on January 12th. Unlike in the past, the Munich team will forego a training camp in the desert. After sessions in Munich and two days in the mountains to build up team spirit, the team will not travel again to Faro, Portugal, until mid-January.
“We want to use this to spend four or five days together on the pitch, improve tactical things and hopefully see the sun,” said Tuchel. New staff may then already be available to him. The winter transfer window opened on New Year’s Day and there is a need on the defensive end. “We will try to strengthen the team,” said Tuchel.
There is a need on defense
The Munich team, who were said to be interested in Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah (which Bayer managing director Simon Rolfes has already ruled out), are not alone. Options are being explored across the league and weak points in the squads are to be remedied. RB Leipzig has already struck and signed North Macedonian international Eljif Elmas. At Borussia Dortmund, signing a left-back is a top priority. Eintracht Frankfurt is flirting with former Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic.
The releases for the Asian and African Cups also play a role in the clubs’ considerations. At FC Bayern and Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, some players will be missing for a few weeks.
