Tourbillons, the new series to discover on L’Equipe explores

From January 8, L’Equipe explore is launching “Tourbillons”, an event series produced with Seiya Production and the INA. “Tourbillons” returns in archive images to great moments in French sport which provoked media hysteria and enthralled society as a whole. A documentary series in 6 episodes which enriches the L’Equipe catalog explores – the documentary space of the site and the application bringing together the original creations and content of L’Equipe for this new year.

The six episodes to discover every month from January 8 on L’Equipe explores:

Episode 1: Amélie Mauresmo’s coming out: In January 1999 Amélie Mauresmo, qualified for the final of the Australian Open, took the opportunity to reveal her homosexuality, provoking odious remarks from Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis who described her as “half a man”. But she will be able to count on the support of the French public who salute her courage.

Episode 2 : la banderole anti ch’tis : in March 2008 during the League Cup final between PSG and RC Lens, a banner was brandished in the Boulogne Boys corner… While the film Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis met with immense success, the affair triggered a national controversy and will end up in court.

Episode 3: the failure of Paris’s candidacy for the 2012 Olympics: in 2005, Paris presented its candidacy for the 2012 Olympic Games. Confident of its strength, France then thought it would win against London. But ultimately it is the English candidate who will be chosen and on the French side the time is bitter…

Episode 4: the Festina affair: in 1998 a trainer from the Festina team was arrested at the Franco-Belgian border before the start of the Tour de France. Hundreds of doping products were discovered in his vehicle. He will admit to structured and organized doping within Festina. Richard Virenque, team leader, and his 8 teammates are excluded from the race. A cataclysm in the world of cycling.

Episode 5: the France-Algeria match at the Stade de France: On October 6, 2001, the only football match between France and Algeria took place. In the 76th minute, Algerian supporters entered the Stade de France pitch, causing the match to be interrupted. The controversy takes on unprecedented proportions.

Episode 6: Thierry Henry’s hand during France-Ireland: On November 18, 2009, the French team faced Ireland in the return play-off for qualification for the 2010 World Cup. A match where William Gallas equalized with a header, served by the hand of Thierry Henry. France is qualified but Ireland cries injustice.
