Thailand was able to advance to the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup with a charming record. The War Elephants are not defeated and have not conceded a goal in the group phase.
The 2023 Asian Cup has completed matches in the group phase. 16 teams progressed from the group phase to the knockout phase.
Indonesia was part of these 16 clubs and made history by qualifying for the knockout phase of the 2023 Asian Cup for the first time. The Garuda team qualified with the status of one of the best third places. Indonesia is in third place in Group D with three points.
The Red and White Team is not the only Southeast Asian representative in the round of 16. Thailand first secured a place in the knockout phase.
The results of Masatada Ishii’s children were quite impressive in the group stage. Thailand seemed unaffected by the off-field problems that had approached the Asian Cup.
The War Elephants have just changed coaches from Alexander Polking to Ishii. They were also the last team to arrive Qatar 2023 Asian Cup.
Thailand’s performance remains stable even in the conditions above. They qualified for the last 16 as runners-up in Group F with five points behind Saudi Arabia who were at the top with seven points.
Thailand has never lost or conceded during the group phase. They won 2-0 over Kyrgyzstan and drew 0-0 against Oman and Saudi Arabia.
The back line is Thailand’s strength. They didn’t concede even though they were often attacked by opposing teams in the group phase. Thailand received a total of 36 shots throughout the group stage but none of them resulted in a goal.
The toughness of Thailand’s back line will be tested by tough opponents in the last 16 2023 Asian Cup. They will meet Uzbekistan.
