Tommy Baldwin helped Chelsea win the FA Cup for the first time and lift their first European trophy
Former Chelsea forward Tommy Baldwin has died aged 78 following a long illness.
Baldwin began his career at Arsenal, moving to Stamford Bridge in 1966 in a part-exchange for George Graham.
He scored 92 goals in 239 appearances and was a key player in the first Chelsea side to win the FA Cup in 1970.
The following season, he helped the club lift a first European trophy as they beat Real Madrid after a replay in the Cup Winners’ Cup final in Greece.
Baldwin also played in the 1967 FA Cup final and 1972 League Cup final defeats by Tottenham and Stoke.
He left Chelsea in the mid-1970s, becoming one of a host of players from England to feature in the high-profile North American Soccer League.
