Tierra Amarilla’s Young Athletes Achieve Greatness in Varied Disciplines with Municipal Support

Cycling, Judo, Soccer, boxing and motocross among other disciplines highlight 20 young people from Tierra Amarilla who, supported by the municipal management, have achieved important milestones in each of their disciplines.

Among the young people, the soccer player Antonia Cáceres stands out, who has managed to develop her discipline to an optimal level “when I was 12 years old I went to a mass trial for the Deportes Copiapó Femenino team, being selected in the sub-19. On this occasion, the municipality has allowed me to travel and continue competing in different regions, strengthening my skills as an athlete,” highlights the young woman.

Likewise, Matías Cáceres, arrived at the Colo-Colo Menaki soccer school at the age of 10 and where at that school he was able to travel to Brazil “and learn new techniques that helped me improve as an athlete, at the age of 14 I decided to try out for the official youth Colo-Colo team in Santiago where I spent a year to give way to my stay in the Santiago Wanderers team”

In this context, the mayor of Tierra Amarilla, Cristóbal Zúñiga highlighted that “enhancing talent in children and young people in our commune is also confirming our conviction of a better quality of life, taking advantage of public spaces, healthy recreation and overcoming bad practices. such as crime and drug addiction. In that, sport has always been one of our battle tools to continue fighting for a commune with young talents that will always have our support. My commitment is to them and their parents, family and friends who are a fundamental pillar for our young talents to achieve the goal they want to achieve.”

FROM YELLOW LAND TO THE WORLD

It should be noted that there have been massive events that promote sports in the commune, such as the “Color Run” held in November and where around 150 people participated. In that instance, each attendee had their own hydration bottle, as well as t-shirts, logos and colors specific to this instance.

Now, for this 2024 summer season, sports workshops are considered such as the figure skating workshop, basketball, figure skating, Zumba, physical conditioning, in addition to workshops in municipal swimming pools and recreational spaces.

“We want this summer, 2024, to be marked by healthy living, encouraging all families to take advantage of public spaces, workshops and events designed for all the residents of Tierra Amarilla. In the sports workshops, I extend a special invitation to all young people, but also to our neighbors of all ages because we have prepared activities where we want everyone to participate,” emphasizes the mayor of Tierra Amarilla, Cristóbal Zúñiga.

In turn, the mayor, accompanied by councilors Dixson Gallardo, Luis Guerrero and Walter Cortés, welcomed the Tierra Amarilla athletes who arrived from Europe a few months ago; Ignacio Tapia Urtulla and Pedro Vicencio Rivera, those who managed to participate in the 2023 BMX Cycling World Championship held in France, representing the commune of Tierra Amarilla, as well as the Atacama region and the country.

It should be noted that the young Ignacio Tapia, 21 years old, has been practicing the BMX sport for more than eight years, and where his story also marks a motivation to improve, “this sport got me out of drugs, violence and falling into prison like all the others.” children with whom I hung out when I was a child, that is why I hope we can bring a message of hope to all the boys and girls who want to practice some sport,” says Ignacio, who also highlights the support of the Municipality to be able to reach to this world-class championship, “my mission is here and I want to leave a legacy for the boys and girls who practice this sport,” emphasizes the young athlete from Tierra Amarilla.
