The Surfing Federation withdraws its support for the Canéjan wave pool project

Two pools with a total capacity of 20,000 m3 capable of creating waves of more than 1.30m. On paper, the Sliding Academy project, self-sufficient in water and energy thanks to the recovery of rainwater and photovoltaics, promises to combine sport and ecology. After receiving the green light from the health authorities, the town of Canéjan, located in the Bordeaux metropolis (Gironde), signed the building permit in February 2023.

But the announced figures of drinking water consumption of 13,318 m3/year did not convince either local residents or environmental associations, who filed an appeal at the end of July before the Bordeaux administrative court. They have just received the results of the analyzes carried out by an independent researcher. Verdict? “Consumption would be ten to twelve times higher than announced,” squeaks Rémy Petit, from the Canéjan en transition collective.
