The Struggles of Václav Sejk: From Hopeful Start to Uncertain Future at Sparta Prague

He benefited from hosting in Teplice and then in Jablonec. The emphatic striker had a good shot there. The autumn was supposed to be a breakthrough for him, after returning to Sparta, he already wanted to claim a decent amount of minutes in the first team. It did not happen.

Although the Czech champion played two complete elevens in the first game of the winter training against FC Kodaň (2:0), Václav Sejk did not fit in even one.

“In the case of Sejko, we knew that we wouldn’t use him in the match, so he didn’t appear in the nomination,” coach Brian Priske hinted at the weekend that the captain of the Lions national team must look for a proper workload elsewhere.

Everything was confirmed on Monday, when the young attacker did not fly with Sparta to the training camp in Marbella, Spain.

“The club, together with the player, is solving the form of his game workload in the coming months,” Sparta announced on its website.

There was interest in Sejko abroad as well as in domestic clubs. Some demanded an option for the transfer of the twenty-one-year-old attacker, but Sparta did not look for that. The solution is currently the second team of the second Dutch league. Roda is six points behind leaders Tilburg.

In the fall, Sejk accumulated only 283 minutes in twelve league starts. He then played twice in the MOL Cup, where he contributed one goal in the round of 16 in November to progress over Bohemians.

Sejk came to Sparta in 2017 from Teplice and made it to the A-team through youth selections. He played in Teplice and Jablonec, in the top competition he has 55 games, 11 goals and three assists.
