The Port of Motril regains control of the passenger terminal |

The Port Authority of Motril (Spain) has once again assumed the management of the passenger terminal, previously concessioned to the Armas shipping company. This measure seeks to facilitate the expansion of the facilities, including the installation of escalators to improve access to the upper floor and increase its functionality.

While the expansion projects are carried out, the Motril enclave has announced the construction of a temporary structure on the eastern side of the current building. This structure will allow passengers to access the upper floor through a ramp and mechanical lifting means, such as an elevator.

The decision to resume management of the terminal seeks to attract new shipping companies, currently operating with Armas Trasmediterránea and Balearia, and expand markets. Likewise, a single border control point will be established to simplify customs and immigration procedures.

For his part, José García Fuentes, president of the Port Authority, highlighted that this measure seeks to improve the facilities and competitiveness of the port, especially on the second floor, now operational.

Apart from recovering the management of the passenger terminal, the Andalusian enclave has acquired a land area of 9,941 square meters and a water surface of 7,458 square meters at the Costa dock, which previously belonged to Terminales Marítimas Armas.

In relation to the concession in the Levante dock, Armas will see its land and water surface area reduced. The company is committed to transporting 55,000 passengers and 17,750 vehicles per year as part of the readjustment of the concession area. Currently, it operates maritime connections with Nador and Al Hoceima, in Morocco.

On the other hand, the Port of Motril, in collaboration with the Granada business group Cuerva, has obtained the support of the European Union to carry out a project aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from ships that dock at its facilities.
